A journey is... a way forward. It might not always look that way, in fact most of the time it doesn't. It looks like obstacles in your path. It looks like going around in circles. It looks like going backwards, even. You know that feeling when you're lost in a new city? All the street signs look the same in this foreign language and you realise you've passed the same marshmallow-pink themed bakery three times. But on the third time, you meet someone who tells you about a little-known place you need to go. A place only locals know. Years later, when you think back on this trip, it will be the magic of this place that stands out in your memory. Something about the experience shaped you. All because you thought you were lost, but you were just taking the steps you needed to take, to get where you needed to go.

I live, write and work on the beautiful land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nations. I pay my respects to elders, past, present and emerging and acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded. This land always was and always will be Aboriginal land. |
